Behzad Namazi

Behzad Namazi (composer, ethnomusicologist, and multi-instrumentalist) received his Bachelor's in music composition from Ohio State University in 2013, Master's in music composition from Ohio University in 2015, and PhD in ethnomusicology and music composition from Ohio University in 2020.


Dr. Namazi’s research and performance practice is centered around the modal system of Persian traditional music, and the socio-cultural phenomena surrounding this musical tradition. His compositional and academic works have been premiered at various national and international festivals and symposia. His latest book chapter, entitled “Āvāz: The Art of Persian Traditional Singing,” was published by Rowman & Littlefield Press in October 2019. His forthcoming book chapter, entitled “Tehrangeles: A Glance at the Global Capital of Persian Pop Music,” will be included in The Oxford Handbook of Global Popular Music, and is set to be published in 2024 by Oxford University Press. Dr. Namazi also teaches private lessons on a variety of musical instruments to students of all ages and proficiencies, through his music academy.
